But the folks at a British company named Zapp are hoping to appeal to a wide audience of adventure-seeking bikers with its new Zapp i300 eScooter.
Easy, Affordable Transportation
The new all-electric scooter is being called a transportation solution for urbanites who want an EV but don’t have the dedicated parking space for recharging an electric car. The Zapp i300 retails for $7,495 and is positioned as a daily commuter vehicle for city dwellers. It offers the convenience of a scooter, the performance of a motorcycle and it is all-electric. The i300 debuted in Paris last month and is on its way to Asia and then the United States in 2022.
Zapp has done its research on similar gas-powered scooters and sees the i300 as the future of affordable transportation in many parts of the world. The global scooter market is a $109 billion business and powered, road-legal scooters are very popular in many parts of the world. “Europeans and Asians continue to embrace this mode of personal urban mobility, and are adopting electric versions quickly. We hope savvy urban Americans will do so soon,” said Swin Chatsuwan, founder and CEO of Zapp.
Eco-Friendly Construction
The sleek i300 is fully recyclable, incorporating an original alloy exoskeleton and proprietary composite body, rather than plastic components. The scooter only weighs 200 pounds, is easy to maneuver and can take you from zero to 30 miles per hour in just 2.3 seconds. For safety, the top speed is capped at 60 mph, and it comes with anti-lock brakes for quick stopping.
Charge It Anywhere
The Zapp i300 comes with two, 1.4-kilowatt-hour, independent battery packs that are positioned under the rider’s feet. Each of the two battery packs weigh 12 pounds are about the size of a laptop computer. They can be removed for easy recharging in your house using any 110-volt electric outlet. An 80 percent charge takes less than an hour.
With both battery packs plugged into the scooter, range is 40 miles, but it can also operate on just one battery pack. That allows owners to leave one battery charging at the home or office. Extra batteries are available that you can keep in a backpack and swap out for longer trips.
