What Are the Best AWD Electric Cars?

There is great interest today in all-wheel drive vehicles. Traction can mean the difference between driving safely through ice, snow, and slush, or ending up in a ditch. Luckily, there are a number of excellent AWD all-electric vehicles on the market and this year’s list of our top six best AWD EVs is made up of America’s most popular type of vehicle, the crossover.

From the affordable Kia EV 6 and awesome Hyundai Ioniq 5 to the luxurious Mercedes-Benz EQC 400, our sexy six tick all the boxes for cool-factor, comfort, range, and reliability. The following clever crossover SUVs are listed by starting MSRP price, from least to most expensive. All fuel economy insights are EPA estimates only. Actual mileage and efficiency may vary.

The ID.4 is a great all-around crossover offering a lot of comfort and range for the money. It is the lowest priced EV on our list with a starting MSRP of $41,190, and we even named it the Best EV Family SUV. This five-seater family mover is available in three trim levels, the most popular being the Pro S AWD starting at $49,370. With a range of 250 miles, the estimated MPGe for the ID.4 is 98 miles in the city and 88 on the highway.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

The new and very stylish Ioniq 5 is a well-equipped five-seater crossover offering the very latest technology - even taking our 2022 EV Crossover of the Year. It is available in three trim levels, the most popular of which is the SE AWD that starts at $48,745. It is estimated to deliver 110 MPGe in the city and 87 MPGe on the highway. The roomy and comfortable EV boasts a range of 303 miles with the single electric motor version.

This sleek and popular crossover is Kia’s first dedicated all-electric vehicle. The EV6 is a five-seater that comes in three trim levels. The Wind AWD variant comes with all-wheel drive and is priced at $52,155. The EPA estimates 116 MPGe in the ciy and 94 MPGe on the highway. It offers lots of cargo space and the latest technology. Range is 232 to 303 miles depending on battery pack.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

All-wheel drive is available in this awesome five-seater SUV crossover boasting a 303-mile range and, in the GT version, it can take you from zero to 60 mph in an earth-shaking 3.5 seconds. The 2022 Mustang Mach-E's MSRP starts at $44,995, not including $7,500 federal tax credit. It comes in five trim levels and is estimated to deliver 90 MPGe in the city and 77 MPGe on the highway.

This luxurious Audi has all-wheel drive, can get up to 402 horsepower, can tow up to 4,000 pounds (when properly equipped) and features five available drive modes, including off-road. The five-seater comes in six trim levels with the popular Premium SUV AWD starting at $67,095. The e-tron is a Best-Selling EV for a reason: it delivers 78 MPGe in the city and 77 MPGe on the highway, and a range of 222 miles between charges.

Mercedes-Benz EQC 400

The first Mercedes to wear the EQ badge is part of a growing family of all-electric vehicles bearing the famous three-point star. The EQC 400 boasts an all-new drive system with electric motors at each axle for all-wheel drive, delivering 402 horsepower and 561-pound feet of torque, taking you from zero to 60mph in 4.2 seconds. It can fast charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 40 minutes. Equipped with the advanced MBUX media system, the EQC responds to the driver’s voice and anticipates your needs as you drive. Coming to America in 2025.
