Long a pioneer in the development of hydrogen fuel cells, Toyota is consolidating its hydrogen research and development efforts in California, in a new campus called Toyota Motor North America Hydrogen Headquarters (H2HQ). It’ll support a wide variety of hydrogen projects that go well beyond passenger cars.

2024 is going to be a big year for electrification at Honda. Not only is it launching the Prologue electric SUV, but there is a new 2025 Civic Hybrid, and a fuel-cell electric CR-V as well. 

Toyota is one of the pioneers of electrification, having first introduced hybrid vehicles over 20 years ago. It continues to believe in offering a mix of carbon-reducing technologies such as hybrid, plug-in, and hydrogen in addition to battery-electric. Here's why.

Honda, one of the leaders in hydrogen fuel cell technology, has announced it will start production of a new fuel cell-powered model based on the CR-V crossover in 2024. It will combine the fast refuelling of hydrogen fuel cells with plug-in capability for battery-electric driving in the city.

Production of the 2023 Honda CR-V has begun in Canada. In addition to regular gasoline drivetrain options, a new hybrid version offers more power and torque, a higher top speed, and greater towing capacity. The company expects the latest CR-V hybrid to account for half of the model's sales.

The all-electric Honda Prologue SUV is similar in size to the gasoline-powered Passport and will sit above the CR-V in the company's rapidly expanding SUV line-up. It is built on shared technology with General Motors and arrives on U.S. roads in early 2024.
