New Polestar 6 Preview
Polestar is a company that has long been tied to Volvo. First known for tuning gasoline-engine Volvos, and building Volvo race cars, Polestar has been a standalone brand since 2017. Based in Sweden, it introduced the plug-in hybrid Polestar 1 that year, followed by the fully-electric Polestar 2, which came in 2019 and was refreshed in 2024. Now a fully-electric brand, Polestar launched two SUV models in 2024 as well. Today, however, we are talking about its radical sports car, which will be known as the Polestar 6.
Fully Electric Sports Car on Sale in 2026
Tesla has been talking about bringing back its two-seat Roadster for a number of years now, but Polestar is pulling ahead with plans to make its production electric sports car available as a 2026 model. The Polestar 6 will be a “halo” car for the automaker, a special vehicle that puts its manufacturer’s drive to innovate on the front page.
There’s a lot we don’t yet know about the Polestar 6, but we do know it is based on the design of the eye-catching 02 concept car, a mind-blowing two-door hardtop convertible with a bonded aluminum chassis. Polestar says that a lightweight aluminum frame will increase rigidity and improve body control. Ducts that exit behind the front wheels improve airflow, and Polestar says that thin air blades at the back of the car reduce turbulence, making it easier to launch an onboard drone while driving. We're not kidding.
Polestar 6 Design and Tech
Yes, Polestar’s 02 concept car came with its own flying drone that could be deployed from the vehicle autonomously, and follow the roadster at up to 56 mph to document it driving on the road. As of this writing, we’d be surprised if the drone will make it into the production Polestar 6.
Early images of the Polestar 6 show off a sleek exterior design with extremely clean lines. The minimalistic interior is both luxurious and functional, and uses eco-friendly sustainable materials and state-of-the art technology. Altogether, the Polestar 6 is likely to be of the most futuristic cars we’ve ever seen.
Easy-to-use controls should flank the steering wheel, and the Polestar 6’s digital dash will offer a head-up display. A large infotainment touchscreen will showcase the latest Google-based software. Upper trim versions will no doubt feature rich Nappa leather, as seen in the Polestar 2.
Expect such safety and driver assist tech as multiple air bags, adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and blind-spot monitoring to all come as standard.
Polestar 6: 884 Electric Horsepower
The manufacturer says the Polestar 6 will feature an 884-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that will blast from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2-seconds. Based on other Polestar models, we’d guess this road warrior should have a battery pack large enough to take you 300 miles on a charge.
Riding on 20-inch wheels shod in Michelin rubber, the Polestar 6 will also have adjustable Öhlins high-performance dampers as standard; firm suspension tuning should make this sports car feel like it is cornering on rails.
An 800-volt battery pack electric architecture shared with the Polestar 5 four-door hatchback may include a fast-charging battery that can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just ten minutes.
Polestar 6 Pricing and Availability
While the company has not released a suggested retail price for the Polestar 6, industry insiders suggest that it will likely cost around $100,000 for the base model.
