The Toyota bZ5X is Coming

Toyota is following up on its successful bZ4X crossover electric car with a larger, bolder, and just plain better, three-row SUV that will be the all-electric counterpart to its hugely popular Highlander model. Here’s what we know about the bZ5X, which should be in dealers by the end of this year.

Beyond Zero

Toyota has a big hit on its hands with the automaker’s first mass-produced all-electric vehicle, the bZ4X crossover EV. It is the first in a line of EVs under the bZ brand, “bZ” stands for “Beyond Zero”, Toyota’s vision to reach beyond carbon neutrality, finding new ways to make a positive difference for our planet and its people.

Sleek and upscale inside and out, the bZ5X is a three-row, dual-motor, all-wheel drive SUV that Toyota says will offer 280 miles of range and can charge from 20 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes on Level 3 DV Fast Charging. However, automotive rumors are swirling that this might be Toyota’s first EV with solid state batteries. If that is the case, it could nearly double those range estimates. Stay tuned.

Inside the Seven-Seater

Besides being better for bigger families, the bZ5X will bring you a more lavish interior than the Highlander, likely use the same infotainment setup as the bZ4X which boasts a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless phone charging and an astounding suite of driver assist safety features.

These will include Dynamic Radar Cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert with pedestrian detection and more all as standard.

It will likely also best the Highlander in terms of cargo space. The three-row Highlander has 16 cubic feet behind its third row and 48.4 cubic feet behind the second row with the third-row seats stowed away.

The bZ5X is one of 30 new EV models that Toyota plans to launch by 2030, all building on the Beyond Zero mantra of making the world a little better, one car at a time.

Estimated MSRP starting at - $52,000
