Hyundai Ioniq 5: Best-Selling EV Crossover Gets Better

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one of the best-selling EVs in America. It combines a spacious, versatile interior, excellent range and charging ability, a fine driving experience, and high-tech features in a well-priced package that offers excellent value. Since its introduction in 2021, the Ioniq 5 has been one of our favorite electric cars – and for 2025, it’s getting even better.

Now made in the U.S., and therefore eligible for a $3,750 federal EV tax rebate ($7,500 if you lease), the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a full slate of enhancements inside and out. They increase its functionality, range, and performance, and also bring new features to the increasingly competitive EV crossover market. In addition to feature enhancements, there’s also a new adventure-focused trim level, called Ioniq 5 XRT, adding rugged looks and off-road ability to the mix.

New 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT

All new for 2025, the Ioniq 5 XRT is designed for outdoor adventures, and is positioned between the standard Ioniq 5 models and the high-performance, high-end Ioniq 5 N. It’s immediately recognizable thanks to its aggressive “digital camo” front and rear bumpers and side skirts, rendered in tough black plastic. Black window trim, badging, and mirror caps complete the off-road look.

Only available with dual motors and all-wheel drive, the Ioniq 5 XRT has an 84-kWh battery, shared with the 2025 Ioniq 5 Long Range models. It rides 23 mm higher than other Ioniq 5 models, and features unique suspension tuning as well as unique matte-finish 18-inch wheels fitted with all-terrain tires, giving it more ability to play in the dirt. Thanks to the lift, and the unique bumpers, the Ioniq 5 XRT has an improved approach angle of 19.8 degrees (up from 17.5) and departure angle of 30.0 degrees (up from 25.4 degrees).

Inside, the Ioniq 5 XRT has special “H-Tex” recycled seating surfaces with a unique pattern, XRT badging and logos, and a black headliner to distinguish it from other Ioniq 5 models. Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl are paint options reserved exclusively for the XRT model.

Tesla Supercharger Access and Better Range

All 2025 Ioniq 5 models sold in North America now feature the Tesla-style NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging port, which connects to Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. An adapter lets the 2025 model connect to CCS-style chargers on other networks, as well. The NACS port gives Ioniq 5 drivers more choice and increased convenience on road trips by making it easy to access Tesla’s excellent charging network.

In addition to Supercharger access, 2025 Ioniq 5 models also feature increased battery capacity and range. Standard Range models now feature a 63.0-kWh battery, up from 58.0 kWh; Hyundai clams that the EPA range estimate should go from 220 to over 240 miles. Long Range models now have an 84-kWh battery, up from 77.4 kWh, which Hyundai says is good for up to 280 estimated miles on the EPA cycle, up from 260 miles. Charging speed remains a class-leading 350 kWh on a compatible charger.

2025 Ioniq 5 Feature Enhancements

All 2025 Ioniq 5 models feature numerous interior and exterior upgrades. From the outside, they are recognizable by redesigned front and rear bumpers, as well as new, more aerodynamic wheels that improve efficiency and range. Roof rails, which are flush-mounted, are now available as an option, as are three new matte-finish paints: Atlas White, Ecotronic Gray, and Celadon Gray.

The Ioniq 5’s interior now features more physical buttons and switches for commonly-used functions like first-row heating and ventilation, heated steering wheel, and the automated parking assistant. The wireless charging pad has been relocated to make it easier to reach. A next-generation infotainment system has standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all models, and the system can receive over-the-air updates seamlessly to ensure the vehicle stays up to date. Drivers will also be able to order and install new features over time.

New safety and convenience features include next-generation lane following assist, remote parking assist, parking collision avoidance, and a hands-on detector for the steering wheel. A digital key function allows you to use your smartphone as a key for the car, and share access with other smartphone users.

Improved safety comes in the form of reinforced roof pillars, stronger doors, and eight airbags, including new airbags in the second row.

Ioniq 5 Conclusion: Made in the USA, and Still a Class Leader

Because they are made in the U.S., at Hyundai’s new Metaplant America facility in Georgia, instead of South Korea, the new 2025 Ioniq 5 models are eligible for a $3,750 federal tax incentive when you purchase them; if you lease, they are eligible for $7,500.

With that rebate, and the new upgrades for 2025, we think the Ioniq 5 continues to be a class-leading electric crossover: spacious inside, packed with features, great to drive, and with impressive range and economy. If you are shopping for an EV, it should be at the top of your list.
