An Original Ford EV Crossover Gets Upgraded
Ford’s Mustang Mach-E is a sales hit, one of the top 10 selling electric cars in the U.S. since its introduction in 2020. Buyers have gravitated towards the Mach-E for its great style, versatile and spacious interior, and performance to live up to the Mustang. But, where the Mach-E once had very few competitors in the market, it now has dozens, and Ford has made some significant upgrades to the 2025 model – while simultaneously lowering its starting MSRP by $3,500.
Starting MSRP $3,500 Lower, with Free Home Charger
That’s right, the Mustang Mach-E now starts at $36,495 excluding destination – making it that much more affordable than before. While it’s not eligible for the full $7,500 tax incentive if you purchase it outright, the Mach-E, like most EVs, qualifies for a $7,500 rebate if you lease it. Plus, in October, Ford started offering a complimentary high-end Ford Power Station Pro home charger with two-way charging ability, as well as complimentary installation of your home charger.
In addition to the price drop and easy home charging, the 2025 Mach-E now also features a standard heat pump on all trim levels. A heat pump helps to improve heating and cooling efficiency in electric cars, pulling in warmth from the outside air – even when it’s cold – to heat the cabin and battery, and reversing the effect to cool the car when it’s warm outside.
Standard Heat Pump Improves Cold-Weather Range
Heat pumps help EVs operate more efficiently, giving more range especially in winter conditions. (Gasoline engines generate lots of residual heat, meaning you don’t pay a range or efficiency penalty to warm the cabin; electric motors are so efficient that a heater or heat pump is necessary.)
The new, standard heat pump does make the Mach-E’s front trunk a little bit smaller than before, but there’s still more than enough room for an overnight bag or for charging equipment, but it’s worth the trade-off for the improved range and performance, particularly if you live in a cold climate.
Upgraded BlueCruise Driver Assist
A heat pump isn’t the only upgrade for 2025, however. Ford has also enhanced the optional BlueCruise driver assistance system to the latest 1.5 version. In addition to offering supervised hands-free driving on certain stretches of freeway, BlueCruise 1.5 can now execute lane changes automatically without driver input.
How does it work? When the Mach-E approaches a vehicle ahead moving slower than the set speed, the system’s cameras and sensors detect if there is space in the adjacent lane to execute an automatic lane change, activating the turn signal and then the steering wheel automatically. In doing so, BlueCruise 1.5 enables more hands-free driving, and takes some of the stress out of navigating through traffic. Ford’s own testing says that BlueCruise 1.5 can handle almost half of all the lane changes on a typical commute. BlueCruise is available as a one-time pay option for $2,495 or as a $495 subscription service.
2025 Mustang Mach-E Upgrades
There’s also an available in-car connectivity package that includes:
- A 5G Wi-Fi hotspot to keep passenger devices online and connected when on the road. Up to 10 personal devices can be connected at once, and can stay connected up to 50 feet from the Mach-E – which is great for camping or tailgating.
- In-vehicle apps like YouTube take advantage of the in-vehicle screen when parked. Passengers can stream their favorite videos, sing along to in-vehicle karaoke, or simply stream their favorite audio with Amazon Alexa.
- Upgraded “connected navigation” helps drivers get where they need to go seamlessly, and includes an upgraded EV trip planner, predictive destinations, and route guidance. Road trips have never been easier.
There are also a number of new customization options. Buyers of the Mach-E Premium can now choose a “sport appearance package” which includes the front bumper, grille graphics, black wheels, black door cladding and wheel lips, and red-painted Brembo brake calipers from the high-performance Mustang Mach-E GT. Inside, the package comes with red accent stitching and sportier pedals. All told, you get the look of the most expensive Mach-E at a lower price point.
Premium models of the Mach-E now get standard ventilated seats, and all models have a column-mounted gear shift, replacing the rotary knob that lived on the center console. This frees up additional storage space, making for a more versatile interior. There are also three new colors to choose from: Molten Magenta, Velocity Blue, and Desert Sand, as well as three new wheel designs, including a dark-gray wheel for the off-road oriented Mustang Mach-E Rally version.
Conclusion: A Great EV Crossover Gets Better
The 2025 model’s enhanced standard equipment, increased versatility, upgraded driver assistance systems, and greater opportunity for customization help to keep the Mustang Mach-E current in an increasingly competitive landscape. The new, lower starting MSRP helps as well – and should help keep this excellent electric crossover high in the sales charts for years to come.
