EV SUVs: More to Choose From in 2025

2025 is an exciting year for electric cars. While headlines throughout 2024 highlighted slowing demand for some models, overall sales of EVs in the U.S. well exceeded the one million mark for the second year in a row, and EV market share is greater than it’s ever been. Manufacturers continue to focus future efforts on electric models.

For the past two decades, crossovers and SUVs have dominated the U.S. market, surpassing sedans and wagons as the preferred choice for families. Their versatility, higher seating position for easier entry and exit, and available all-wheel drive for off-road adventures or challenging weather conditions make them a popular option. In this article, we’re showcasing some of the most exciting electric SUVs debuting this year.

2026 BMW iX

Since its introduction, the BMW iX has combined great EV credentials, high tech features, and unique styling. Changes to the 2026 model include a new entry-level model with a lower starting MSRP, styling updates, and improved range and performance.

Arriving in late 2025, the 2026 iX will feature three models, all with standard xDrive all-wheel drive. New to the U.S. is the iX xDrive45, which BMW estimates will deliver between 279 and 312 miles of range and 408 horsepower. One step up from the xDrive45 is the new iX xDrive60, which now features a 113.4-kWh usable battery capacity. Power jumps to 536 hp, with 0-62 mph coming up in 4.6 seconds; range is EPA estimated at between 316 and 340 miles. At the top of the range is the new iX M70, which has a 112.6-kWh battery, delivering between 283 and 302 miles of estimated range. It too comes with a significant power bump, jumping from 610 hp to 650 hp, with the 0-62 mph time dropping to just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.

The new iX is distinguished by its revised front which features a new, simpler headlight design, revised “grille” panels etched with a more elegant pattern than before, and a new front bumper design. New wheel designs include available 22-inchers, and the iX xDrive60 now features a standard sport package with blacked-out exterior elements, dark clear tail lamps, and a number of new color options.

Hyundai Ioniq 9

The all-new Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a three-row electric SUV that advances Hyundai’s leadership in electrification. It’s big, stylish, swift, and has impressive features and range. It brings together cutting-edge design and innovative tech into an appealing new choice for drivers who want to carry up to seven occupants.

Using the latest, and largest, version of Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture, the Ioniq 9 has all-new power electronics and motors coupled with a floor-mounted NCM lithium-ion battery with 110.3 kWh of capacity. Thanks to an 800-volt system architecture, the Ioniq 9 can charge at up to 350 kW (among the fastest in the industry) which equates to going from 10 to 80 percent charge in just 24 minutes.

A rear-wheel drive model is the range champion, featuring a rear-mounted 214-hp motor. Hyundai claims a range of 385 miles on the European WLTP cycle; expect about 330 miles of range according to the EPA rating in the U.S. There is a long-range all-wheel drive model which adds a second, front-mounted motor to the mix, producing 94 horses, delivering a 0-60 mph time of 6.7 seconds. A Performance model offers twin 214-hp motors, for a total of 428 hp, which can accelerate to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

Honda 0 Series SUV

A mid-size electric SUV will be the first model to enter production on Honda’s all-new 0 Series EV platform. Sharing design elements with the Space Hub concept vehicle shown in 2024, the 0 SUV has an exceptionally spacious cabin with outstanding flexibility and visibility.

Honda says its approach to electric vehicles, which are typically large and heavy, is different; the company calls the O Series, “thin, light, and wise.” It’s been designed from the inside out, with a minimalistic feel and expansive screens with highly customizable digital content. Most importantly, steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire controls maximize the amount of space within the car for people and cargo. Instead of small, narrow windows, the glass areas are expansive, furthering the impression of space.

While Honda has yet to share final specifications of the 0 SUV (expect a new name by the time it goes on sale late in the year), the company does say that by-wire control of steering, suspension, and brakes should result in outstanding handling. Electronic control of these systems should also help the 0 SUV’s active safety systems react faster and with more subtlety than in conventional vehicles.

Jeep Wagoneer S

The Jeep Wagoneer is known as the company’s biggest and most spacious SUV. Currently powered by big, guzzling gasoline engines, the Wagoneer models will be joined by a new fully-electric version, called Wagoneer S. But while the name is the same, the new large EV SUV doesn’t look much like the boxier members of the Wagoneer family. Its sleek, aerodynamic design should help it achieve a targeted 400 miles of range on a full charge, while initial images also show LED backlighting for the grille and a full-width rear light bar.

Offered in Europe and Asia as well as in the U.S., the Wagoneer S is narrower than gasoline-powered Wagoneer models but still has a very spacious cabin, and all of the technology and luxury you would expect from a luxury SUV. Power options will offer up to 600 hp, with the ability to dash to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds for top trim models. Electric all-wheel drive is standard, with an all-terrain management system to help make off-roading easy and confident.

Mini Countryman SE

The all-new Mini Countryman, available with gasoline power, is also available as a fully-electric SUV, called the Mini Countryman SE. Already on sale in Europe, the Countryman SE adds some rugged touches to this versatile crossover, along with electric all-wheel drive. It shares its basic architecture with the excellent BMW X1 and iX1, gasoline and electric versions of the German brand’s entry-level SUV.

The specs for the new electric Mini Countryman are impressive. On the European WLTP test cycle, it achieves an EPA estimated 269 miles of range while two electric motors deliver 313 hp to all four wheels. The claimed 0-60 time is under 5.5 seconds. The 66.5-kWh battery can be recharged on a Level 3 charger at up to 130 kW, which is not class-leading, but its small capacity and the Mini’s impressive range show how efficient the overall package is.

Larger than the previous Countryman, the latest model with electric drive has a much roomier interior, and the spacious cargo area can be expanded by folding the rear seats. An all-new infotainment system features a large circular screen in the middle of the dashboard for all major functions, backed up with physical switches for the most commonly used controls.

Lucid Gravity

Lucid became famous for its incredible, sleek, and high-tech Air sedan. Now, with the Lucid Gravity SUV, the company is set to expand into a much more competitive market, where well-known luxury brands dominate.

The Gravity incorporates a lot of technology from the Lucid Air sedan such as its compact, powerful electric drive units, state-of-the-art 800-volt architecture, and lightweight design. Lucid’s electric motors are the envy of the industry, so much so that other brands like Aston Martin, have decided to contract Lucid to produce EV motors for its upcoming models. They are tiny, very efficient, and very powerful: the Gravity Grand Touring will produce over 800 horsepower, and with a similar-sized battery to the Air Grand Touring, is estimated to deliver over 440 miles of range.

The starting MSRP is $79,900 for the Lucid Gravity Touring, with the high-spec Gravity Grand Touring starting from $94,900. Lucid has begun taking orders for both vehicles, with priority given to the Grand Touring Model. Deliveries will begin in late 2025.

Cadillac Lyriq-V

Cadillac is extending its high-performance V-series family with the 2026 Lyriq-V. It combines luxury, tech, and performance. A 102-kWh battery is positioned low in the rigid body to give it a low center of gravity and a solid foundation for great handling. Expect a high level of isolation and calm in the cabin such as you might well expect of a Cadillac.

The headline figures are 615 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque generated by dual EV motors, which deliver a powerful surge of acceleration. Driving modes include V-Mode, which allows drivers to save their favorite performance-focused settings, including a new “competitive” setting.

The Lyriq-V will rip to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. At a starting MSRP of $79,990, the Lyriq-V is impressively good value for its level of performance. For a small price premium, it offers substantially more performance than the Audi SQ6 e-tron, and it’s tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than the 630-hp Porsche Macan Turbo EV, while offering more interior space and more standard equipment.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz

Okay, it’s not really an SUV, but the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, an electric reinterpretation of the original VW bus, might just be the coolest EV of 2025. Here is a minivan that attracts more attention than most supercars, or even that most recent social media darling, the Tesla Cybertruck.

The Buzz is available in rear- or all-wheel drive forms, with six or seven seats, but if you want the seven-seat configuration, you can only get it with rear-wheel drive. Range isn’t great for this type of vehicle; on a full charge, the 86-kWh battery is capable of delivering 234 miles, or 231 miles for the all-wheel drive model, according to EPA estimates. Rear-wheel drive Buzzes have 282 horsepower, with all-wheel drive models jumping to 335 hp, enough to dash from 0-60 mph in under six seconds.

Looked at solely according to its on-paper statistics, the Buzz is a hard vehicle to justify. The starting MSRP of $61,545 is high for what you get, compared to other three-row EVs like the Kia EV9 and upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 9, which offer far more range and charging speed for thousands less. But the Buzz defies logic. While its shape makes it a practical package for hauling families and their gear, this electric minivan is all about the desire that its gorgeous design evokes, the memories it triggers, and the joy that it brings to everyone around it.

Electric SUVs in 2025 Push Boundaries in Range, Performance and Innovation

With more options than ever before, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for electric SUVs. Automakers continue to push the boundaries of range, performance, and technology, giving buyers a diverse lineup of vehicles to choose from. As EV adoption continues to grow, these models showcase how the market is evolving to offer more range, faster charging, and better performance than ever before.

Whether you’re looking for efficiency, adventure, or pure driving excitement, 2025’s electric SUVs have something for everyone.
