Kia has just shown off images of its striking new EV4, a mainstream family car that will be available as both a sedan and hatchback later this year. It looks unlike any other family sedan you’ve ever seen, and promises impressive efficiency and range.

New Electric Car from Kia: EV4

While some automakers have reacted to the slowing growth (but still growth) of electric car sales by cancelling or delaying new products, Kia still has its foot on the proverbial accelerator. In the last year alone, it has introduced the three-row EV9 SUV and a refreshed EV6 (as well as an updated hybrid and plug-in hybrid Sportage). Next on the starting line is the striking new EV4, a fully-electric midsize sedan that will go on sale later this year.

Available globally as both a sedan and hatchback, the Kia EV4 has clearly been developed to broaden the appeal of the company’s EV offerings, and its size, package, and price should help it target a broad demographic, with a combination of technology and design that buyers will find difficult to ignore.

Kia EV4 Sedan: What We Know

While Kia has not shared many technical details yet regarding the EV4, we know it is built on the “E-GMP” platform that also underpins the EV6 and EV9, as well as several models from corporate cousin Hyundai. That means ultra-fast charging capability thanks to an 800-volt electrical architecture, vehicle-to-load capability, and an impressive suite of driver assistance systems. It should also offer class-leading efficiency and range.

Four doors plus plenty of space both inside and in the trunk make the EV4 a sedan, but its design is unlike any other sedan you’ve seen. It’s distinctive and clean, though some may find it a little polarizing.

The striking front end has vertically oriented headlamps and the brand’s distinctive lighting signature, which accentuates the EV4’s wide, sporty stance while underlining its high-tech character. There’s a highly geometric feel to the side profile, and a very long tail that enhances both aerodynamics as well as versatility. A two-piece rear spoiler combines with vertical light units, and there’s a clean bumper design, accented by a technical pattern where it meets the tailgate.

Kia EV4: Available as a Hatchback

The EV4 hatchback has a contemporary, solid look of its own, with contrasting black vertical C-pillars and crisp lines. Robust, aggressive fenders and machined 19-inch wheels add strength, while geometric patterns on the car’s lower body emphasize its distinctive look.

At the rear, the hatchback has its own unique character. Sharply sculpted lines, wide-positioned taillights, and a sloping rear window create a clean, robust look, and a package that is significantly shorter in length. The bold upright C-pillar trim provides a contrasting visual element, emphasizing the vehicle’s proportions and design identity.

Both sedan and hatchback are available in sporty GT-Line trim. The Kia EV4 GT-Line features unique design elements to create a more dynamic character. Wing-shaped front and rear bumpers provide a stronger, sleeker impression, while 19-inch wheels with a triangular motif enhance its futuristic, sporty feel.

Kia EV4 Availability and Pricing

“The Kia EV4 is a clear reflection of our commitment to rethink mobility, and expand the boundaries of what design can achieve,” said Karim Habib, executive vice president and head of Kia design. “By offering both sedan and hatchback variants, we are bringing to our customers, the unique experience of modernity and practicality that defines the Kia EV family, in a way that suits their varied lifestyles and needs.”

Kia has yet to announce final pricing for the EV4, nor has it yet shared details on battery specs and performance. Full features and information will be released later this year. We anticipate the first deliveries of the EV4 to happen  in the second half of 2025.
