Introducing the All-Electric Ram 1500 REV
Hot on the heels of unveiling the Ram 1500 Revolution concept truck at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Ram has opened the order books for the production version of the truck, which will be called the Ram 1500 Rev. The brand is now taking pre-orders for the all-electric pickup, which will arrive in Q4 2024 – almost two years from now.
Not a lot of details are yet available on the Ram 1500 Rev. We can say that, by looking at the photos, its crew-cab body and short bed are closely related to the popular gasoline-powered Ram currently on sale. That’s no criticism, as the current Ram is good-looking and has one of the best interiors in the class. That said, we don’t expect that the production truck will have the third-row jump seats featured on the concept shown at CES.
Spacious Interior and Frunk
Only a couple of photos of the interior were made available, but it does appear that the cabin is also based on the gas-powered 1500, which has a large, vertical central display. There is a new digital display in front of the passenger, similar to the one available on the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and the interface seems to have been updated as well. Like the Ford F-150 Lightning, the area where a big gasoline engine normally lives has become a large “frunk” (front trunk) lined in rubber with a handy cargo net as well as on-board power. The charge ports for the battery are located beside the driver’s door.
In previous statements, Ram has indicated the new pickup will be built on a new “STLA Frame’ which is made specifically for large electric vehicles. We expect a huge battery to nestle between the frame rails, and for it to run on an 800-volt electrical system, which should make charging the Ram 1500 Rev faster than the F-150 Lightning. Indeed, Ram has said that the truck should be able to add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes at speeds of up to 350 kW.
As a work truck, we expect a towing capacity at least on par with the 10,000-lb rating of the F-150 Lightning and upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV, though such loads will inevitably have a major effect on the truck’s range, which has yet to be disclosed.
The Ram 1500 REV is Available for Pre-Order Now
“The Ram brand has redefined the pickup truck segment before and will once again with the all-new Ram 1500 REV,” said Mike Koval Jr., head of the Ram brand. “We believe in bringing the right range of powertrain solutions to our customers, and the Ram 1500 REV will be the first in a lineup of electrified solutions that will add to our current award-winning truck lineup. We are on an exciting electrification journey that will see Ram push past the competition in areas customers care about the most: range, payload, towing and charge time.”
