A New Revolution
There is much we don’t know about the RAM 1500 Revolution but based on what the automaker has released about its first electric pickup, there is quite a bit that we can deduce. Let’s start with the press releases. RAM tells us that the REV will be quick off the line and offer exemplary range. It has been revealed that it will utilize the automaker’s STLA platform which means all the parts that make this truck go will be encased in a “skateboard” type chassis under the body that will include at least two electric motors, all the suspension components and battery packs.
Pre-releases images of the REV shows us a RAM 1500 that looks pretty much like any other full-size RAM except for a revised front and rear end made a bit futuristic with its choice of LED headlights and taillights and unique wheels. In other words, RAM must be paying close attention to the look and feel of the Ford Lightning, taking note of the over 200,000 pre-orders for the F-150 EV truck and must have figured, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” or “why mess with success.”
More Electric Power
RAM hopes to one up the Ford Lightning and that alone tells us that the REV will likely go from zero to 60 mph in about 4 seconds, have close to 500 horsepower and offer around 500 miles of driving range before it needs a charge. If RAM is smart about this new entry, it will tow as much or more than the Lightning, though taking the lead will mean it will have to pull over 13,000 pounds. Like the Lightning, the REV will have an enormous “frunk” up front for storage as well as the RAM 1500’s usual ample passenger space and lots of cubby storage.
Inside the RAM 1500 REV
Moto journalists have long appreciated RAM trucks for their luxury, and they have been called the best driving and most comfortable full-size American pickup trucks on the market when compared to such rivals as the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra 1500. The interior of the Revolution EV truck will no doubt be a chip off the old RAM block, showcasing upscale materials and plenty of luxurious comfort. Expect heated premium leather seats, ample real wood panels, and a panoramic sunroof.
RAM’s unique split folding tailgate may very well make an appearance as well as many electrical outlets in the bed. Speaking of, thus far, the only images of the Revolution truck show it as a crew-cab body and a short bed. Time will tell if RAM might offer up any other configurations.
Expect an excellent sound system connected via Bluetooth to such streaming services as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We expect that a 12-inch infotainment touch screen will be standard, similar to the upper tiers of the current model RAM 1500 truck. When it comes to safety and driver assist features, you will likely find automated emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Charging the RAM 1500 REV
The Revolution will use Level 2 and Level 3 DC Fast Charging. Our guestimate is that you’ll be able to charge at 150 kwh and that DC Fast charging will give you from a 15 percent to 80 percent charge in under 40 minutes. RAM has confirmed that a range-extender version with a gas-powered engine will be offered similar to a plug-in hybrid drivetrain in which an onboard electric generator charges the vehicle’s battery.
Final Thoughts
The REV will look a lot like any other 2024 RAM 1500, but it will very likely do its best to edge the Ford F-150 Lightning out of the top spot in the EV truck wars to come. It will drive well, look sharp, offer incredible range, speed, and towing capacity, and do it all in comfort and style.
