The Acura RSX Returns

Sports car fans have fond memories of the Acura RSX, a sporty two-door coupe that the brand sold in the early 2000s. The RSX was fast, nimble, fun, and affordable – and it’s coming back to Acura’s lineup in 2026. This time, however, the RSX will be an electric crossover, made right here in the USA.

We don’t know a lot yet about the RSX, although Acura says that it has already begun testing prototypes of the new vehicles in real-world conditions. There is also one publicly-released photo of a prototype, wearing a unique camouflage wrap created by Acura’s design team.

RSX: Sleek Electric Crossover Joins ZDX

Underneath the wrap, what we can see is a sleek, coupe-like silhouette and five doors, including a versatile fastback. The sharp, folded creases we have become used to from other Acura models are present here, but flush-mounted door handles are new, and help to improve aerodynamics and therefore driving range.

The all-new RSX will be Acura’s second all-electric vehicle, joining the larger and more expensive ZDX within the brand’s lineup. Unlike the ZDX, which shares a lot of its architecture and technology with General Motors EVs like the Cadillac Lyriq, the ZDX is built on an all-new EV platform being developed by Honda, which will also be used for that brand’s 0 Series vehicles, recently shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Honda 0 Series Platform

The 0 Series cars have been engineered in-house by Honda and Acura, and will be rolled out globally starting in 2026. They have a “thin, light, and wise” philosophy that eschews the typically large and heavy setup of most EVs. The Honda models feature steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire controls that maximize the amount of space within the car for people and cargo.

One of the coolest elements of the RSX’s structure will be the use of “megacasting” for its intelligent power unit, which houses the EV battery, as well as serving as part of the vehicle’s platform. The castings are much larger than anything the company has ever cast before and helps to reduce weight and improve packaging efficiency.

Made In America

The RSX will actually beat the new Honda electric SUV and Honda electric sedan to market, as the first EV produced at the company’s new electric vehicle hub in Ohio. Production will begin in late 2025. The plant, which combines Honda’s Marysville, East Liberty, and Anna, Ohio, facilities, will feature the latest generation of manufacturing tech, to make production of the RSX as environmentally responsible as its zero-emissions drivetrain.
