Fiat Announces All-Electric Lineup By 2030
As a world of zero-emission vehicles continues to advance, Italian automaker Fiat recently announced that it will go all-electric by 2030. According to Fiat’s CEO Olivier Francois, there are big changes coming. Speaking on World Environment Day in Milan, he outlined how Fiat will make the transition from gasoline-powered vehicles to all-electric cars by 2030, making Fiat an exclusively EV brand.
Fiat 500 EV Coming Soon to U.S.
The gradual transition to electric-only vehicle production follows industry trends by General Motors, Ford, Honda, VW and others. Fiat recently launched an all-electric version of its best-selling city car, the Fiat 500, to reposition the legendary people hauler as exclusively all-electric and battery powered. Currently, the Fiat 500 EV is not available in America, but that will soon change.
Here in the United States, the Fiat line of cars is limited to the 500X and the Fiat 124 Spider. But the automakers new EVs will soon be on the way. “Between 2025 and 2030, our product lineup will gradually become electric only,” Olivier Francois says. “This will be a radical change for Fiat.”
The year 2030 is the date when many countries including the United Kingdom, plans to ban the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles. Other European brands such as Bentley, Jaguar, Lotus, Mini and Volvo are all committed to making the switch to electric vehicles by that target date.
While the Fiat 500 is the manufacturer’s only all-electric car at present, it will soon replace the 500X and 500L with battery-powered variants. Fiat may also go into production on its Centroventi all-electric crossover. Unfortunately, the 124 Spider will go the way of the dinosaur next year.
