2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Review

Outside of the Tesla Cybertruck, one of the most buzz-worthy electric vehicles of the last couple of years has been the Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric van. A modern revival of the iconic VW Microbus from the sixties, the ID. Buzz will begin deliveries in the U.S. this year, and Volkswagen has finally released details about the trim levels and powertrain options for its latest new EV. All versions come very well-equipped, with a fun variety of color and trim choices.

How Do I Order an ID. Buzz?

In total, six separate configurations of this model will be available, providing buyers with a choice of six- or seven-seat configurations and rear- or all-wheel drive.

  • ID. Buzz Pro S rear-wheel drive with 7 seats
  • ID. Buzz Pro S Plus rear-wheel drive with 6 seats
  • ID. Buzz Pro S Plus rear-wheel drive with 7 seats
  • ID. Buzz Pro S Plus all-wheel drive with 6 seats
  • ID. Buzz Pro S 1st edition rear-wheel drive with 7 seats
  • ID. Buzz Pro S 1st edition all-wheel drive with 6 seats

It’s interesting to note that only the rear-wheel drive versions of the ID. Buzz will be available with seven seats (with six seats available on the Pro S Plus), while all-wheel drive configurations only come with six seats.

VW ID. Buzz Trim Levels

What does each trim level offer? The lineup starts with the ID. Buzz Pro S, which already comes very well-equipped. You get keyless access and starting, 20-inch alloy wheels, power sliding doors and liftgate, and a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a compact 5.3-inch digital driver instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with a wireless charger.

Available only in rear-wheel drive trim, the Pro S is the most versatile model thanks to its second-row bench seat, which gives it seven-passenger capacity. Up front, the two captain’s chairs have 12-way power adjustment, and they’re heated and ventilated as well. Upholstery is perforated leatherette, and there’s a choice of 30 different colors for interior ambient lighting.

The ID. Buzz Pro S Plus will be the most popular model, which adds a load of extra technology and luxury features. There’s a driver heads-up display, a surround view monitor with cameras, and a Harman/Kardon premium sound system. An electronically dimmable electrochromic glass roof is available as an option. There’s also a manually-retractable trailer hitch. Buyers can choose from a seven-seat rear-wheel drive model, or a six-seat all-wheel drive model with six captain’s chairs.

Finally, the ID. Buzz First Edition gets a choice of two-tone exterior finishes, unique 20-inch wheels, special badging, a roof rack, and a “coastal” inspired interior that has special upholstery, retro design floor mats, and a “flexboard” to create a flat floor when all the rear seats are folded. The electrochromic roof is standard, and buyers will get a set of unspecified “owner’s gifts.” Like the Pro S model, the First Edition is available as a seven-seat rear-wheel drive, or six-seat all-wheel drive.

2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Availability and Pricing

Buyers of the First Edition models will be able to pair a number of vibrant exterior colors for the lower body with a white or silver top. Inside, there’s a choice of three different themes – a moody, dark interior with dark brown seats with white piping and dark wood trim, a light grey interior with clay piping and light wood dash, and a copper interior that has brown seats with yellow piping and a washed wood-look dash.

Volkswagen has yet to release EPA range estimates for the 2025 ID. Buzz, but all models for sale in the U.S. will come with a standard 91-kWh battery pack, which in Europe provides about 310 miles of range for rear-engine, rear-wheel drive models, which have 282 hp and produce 406 lb-ft of torque. The all-wheel drive models up power to 335 hp, but will have slightly less range. Pricing will be announced closer to the third-quarter on-sale date, but we expect this van to have a starting MSRP in the $50,000 range for entry-level Pro S models, rising to close to $70,000 for the top-spec First Edition trim.
